The highly-anticipated Jesus Is King 2 album by Kanye West and Dr. Dre has unexpectedly leaked online, delighting fans with its star-studded lineup, including Eminem, Snoop Dogg, and more. This unreleased project, initially intended as a sequel to Kanye’s 2019 gospel album Jesus Is King, became available on Monday, September 25, much to the excitement of fans worldwide.
The Leaked Album
Jesus Is King 2 comprises a total of 15 tracks, showcasing an array of superstar guest appearances. Notable contributors to the album include Eminem, Snoop Dogg, Travis Scott, Pusha T, 2 Chainz, Anderson .Paak, A$AP Ferg, and Marsha Ambrosius.
A significant portion of the album features remixed versions of tracks from its predecessor, with Dr. Dre lending his signature touch to songs like “Water,” “Everything We Need,” and “God Is,” providing them with fresh and dynamic makeovers.
The album also introduces new verses from Kanye and an array of guest artists. Noteworthy collaborations include Dr. Dre and Anderson .Paak on “Closed On Sunday,” Travis Scott on “Hands On,” and Eminem on “Use This Gospel,” a track that might sound familiar to fans of DJ Khaled’s GOD DID.
Adding to the excitement, the album includes brand-new tracks such as “This is the Glory,” featuring Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg, “Blood of the Lamb” with Pusha T, “L.A. Monster” featuring A$AP Ferg, and “Our King,” featuring Dre and 2 Chainz.
A Long-Awaited Project
Kanye West first teased Jesus Is King 2 back in November 2019, just weeks after the release of the original Jesus Is King album. He took to Twitter to share his excitement, posting a photo of himself alongside the legendary West Coast producer, Dr. Dre, in the studio.
“Ye and Dre Jesus is King Part II coming soon,” he wrote, generating immense anticipation among fans.
During a Sunday Service event in California the following month, Kanye expressed his admiration for Dre and humorously recounted how creating a gospel album led to their unexpected collaboration.
“Jesus Is King is my first clean album,” he stated. “I used to spend all my time trying to make my beats be mixed as good as Dr. Dre. Who knew all I had to do was do an album for God, and then Dr. Dre would start mixing my beats? Spend your time on God, and he’ll handle the rest.”
However, it took two more years before the public got a glimpse of their collaborative efforts when the pair previewed an unreleased song called “Glory” in a Beats Studio Buds commercial. By then, Kanye had shifted his focus to his 10th studio album, Donda, which was eventually released in August 2021.
The Leak and Beyond
The leak of Jesus Is King 2 follows the recent appearance of another unreleased Kanye West album, Donda: With Child. This early version of his 2021 LP includes reworked tracks from Donda and previously unreleased material, featuring guest appearances by artists like Travis Scott, Pusha T, Big Sean, James Blake, and Sheck Wes. The project was accompanied by a 35-minute video directed by Vanessa Beecroft, filmed at Kanye’s sprawling Wyoming ranch.
For fans who prefer to avoid leaks and enjoy official releases, there’s good news. Kanye West is reportedly hard at work on his 11th studio album, described as a fusion of The College Dropout and The Life of Pablo. It’s rumored to feature an “insane” lineup of collaborators.
Additionally, a Yeezy insider revealed that this upcoming album contains “controversial but not antisemitic mentions of Jewish people.” This development comes after Kanye faced backlash and was dropped by several business partners in the previous year due to controversial comments he made.
Earlier this month, Kanye West treated fans to a new song at the Mowalola Spring/Summer 2024 fashion show in London. The track featured references to prominent figures such as Frank Ocean, Solange, and celebrity jeweler Johnny Dang, leaving fans eager for more.
